Information Technology is changing very rapidly in today's business environment.  It is very important for all the companies to update there technology accordingly.  Papa Johns pizza has evolved in the field of technology as well.  The corporate has been making many changes in the way technology is used in the pizza stores (Franchise and Corporate both).  All the stores that opened in the end of 2013 has Smart routing system and the future stores are suppose to have touch screen as the Till computers just like Subway, McDonald's and other fast food/ pizzas places.

Collaboration: Collaboration is very important for any company to be successful and be profitable.  Papa John's collaborate by both synchronous and asynchronous communication. On a operational level, the General Manager communicates everyday through a phone call, text message to the Assistant Manager of the store he is responsible for. The supervisor of the store mainly communicates with the General Manager through E-mail unless it is something that requires constant reply or answers.

Information Technology: The Specific information technology we are going to talk about is Delivery Dispatch System. 

Every Papa Johns does more than 70% of their business by delivering pizza, so it is very important for a store to have an updated and easy to use technology that would assist the store managers, insiders and the drivers to function in an efficient manner.

Hardware:  The hardware used in the DDS is NCR.  Its a graphical touchscreen hardware that accelerates the system performance and makes the delivery dispatch way much easier.  The touchscreen terminal helps the drivers and the manager to efficiently dispatch the deliveries much faster as it would be without the touch screen terminals.





Software and Data:  The softwar and Database used in the DDS are Mapquest Enterprise and  (SmartRouting 36.6.1). This software provides Graphical Driver Dispatch that provides integrated dispatch, mapping and forecasting functionality.  This software displays status order (Ready, Inprogress, Inoven) and also coloring of the order bars based on CSC(Customer Service Compliance). Every delivery order is displayed as a roof in the map, so if the roof is green order time is within the CSC limits, if yellow its approaching CSC limit, if red it has exceeded CSC limits, and if dark red it has exceeded 54 minutes. This software also provides a Heat Map option, this option helps the manager's to figure out the sector or addresses that have ordered in a selected period of time. Mapquest also has Biometrics Registration, which does not let the managers to manipulate the CSC and cheat the management to increase their bonus. This software is a GPS software, the data stored in the software are the maps, streets of the delivery area of the store. Other than that it also stores the personnel information.


Procedure: There are many steps required to dispatch the deliveries to the drivers. When the drivers enter the store, the manager clocks them in the system.  After putting the drivers on clock, the manager dispatch the delivery to the driver. The software helps the manager to figure out which deliveries are going in the same direction. For example, in the picture shown above, the roofs denotes different deliveries.  After the drivers are done with the deliveries, they need to come back and check in so they could be ready to get some more deliveries.

People: People are the most important part of a business. The store needs a Manager, Insider and a Driver. The number of the managers, insiders and drivers increases and decreases by the sales projection. Every employee is trained every month on Ulearn so they stay updated with the store's day to day operations.

Social Media:  Papa John's operates their own Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. These sites update the customers with the new specials and new pizzas that Papa John's is introducing and/or promoting. For example, Papa John's introduced a New Sweet Chilli Chicken Pizza and another deal that states that "After every game Yankees score 6 or more points their customers get 50% on all the pizza's online only." Papa John's is using social media very aggressively to advertise these deals in the month of May.  Other than Advertising, Papa John's uses social media to hear from their customers (Likes and dislikes) and to improve their pizzas and customer service.
